Yesterday 9/12/2000: No Fly Day ----------------------------------- Yesterday we put the SHIS into Ray & Ben's suggested scanning mode which is very nearly the same as NAST-I. It is a 3-3-15 scan set with Hank's customized angles between +35 and -35 degrees about nadir. Since there are an odd number of scans per scan line, this sequence has the "advantage" that pixels along any fixed view angle alternate between Forward and Backward. This allows for the type of "scan line smoothing" that has become standard for NAST-I. Some ground power tests were performed to diagnose aircraft power problems but SHIS was not directly involved in this activity. Today 9/13/2000: Terra Underfly Atlantic Ocean --------------------------------------------------- Aircraft took off at 8:30 am local time for a 7 1/2 hour flight. Targets should include Terra underfly over mixed cloud ocean track, Etosha salt pan, other desert targets. Ken Vinson is returning to the U.S. today with a complete copy of all raw data to date which he will deliver to Denny for inclusion in the data warehouse. Original data set will be shipped back to SSEC at end of experiment on a separate set of CDs. Tomorrow 9/14/2000: No fly day? ------------------------------------ Hasn't been decided yet but no good Terra overpass tomorrow. That's all for today! -bob knuteson 13 September 2000 p.s. It's dry as a bone here. And chilly. ---------------------------
